GBC Autism Services is Hiring a Bilingual Behavior Technician Near Elgin, IL

GBC is hiring an experienced Behavior Technician to help support a Bartlett patient with autism for the 2024-2025 school year, and get paid year round with summers and breaks off!

GBC provides individualized ABA therapy to children with autism to build confidence and independence. Our goal is to help children lead the most fulfilling and independent lives as possible.

As a School-Based Behavior Technician, you will be working one-on-one with a patient in their school under the supervision of a BCBA. You will follow the flow and structure of the classroom while helping your patient develop new skills like daily living, academic and social skills. You will also be responsible for working on reducing and managing behaviors with your patient.

The school year runs August 13th – May 23rd but you will be paid for all days that school is not in session.

This is a 30-34 hour per week position.

The hours for the position are 8:15 AM – 2:45 PM or 7:45 AM – 2:15PM in a classroom setting, depending on the school you work in.

A typical day includes 15 minutes to prep for your appointment, your 5.5-hour appointment with your patient, a 30-minute lunch break, and 15 minutes to clean up at the end of your appointment.

Additionally, you will meet with your supervisor outside of the school setting for training and meetings via Microsoft Teams and create necessary materials for your patient from home.

This role is set to start in the school on August 13th, with orientation being on August 8th to ensure you can start your RBT modules and complete the background check the district requires.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide fun and nurturing instruction one on one, to children with autism and or trauma to help achieve prescribed goals.
  • Provide assistance on classroom management with regards to instruction and environmental modification.
  • Create and sustain materials necessary for skill acquisition and communication development.
  • Work alongside the classroom teacher(s) and provide necessary support and collaboration.
  • Train teaching staff on behavior intervention plans and assess staff progress to guide future trainings.
  • De-escalate high rates of aggressive behaviors, such as biting, scratching, pinching, kicking, punching and other forms of forceful contact. In addition to other maladaptive behaviors, based on the patient’s behavior intervention plan.
  • Implement a structured program based on the guidance of BCBA and related service team so that student can learn new social and communication skills.
  • Collect and enter data during the academic day using the Central Reach app and Google Sheets.
  • Communicate effectively with your BCBA supervisor.
  • Reliable to follow a weekly schedule for each assigned patient.
  • Commitment to the academic year.

Required Qualifications:

  • Reliable means of transportation.
  • High School Diploma (or Equivalent).
  • At least one year of ABA experience.
  • Experience working in a school environment preferred.
  • Must pass two criminal background checks; one by GBC and the other through the school district.
  • Be able to perform tasks such as running, crawling, stooping, etc. and occasionally lifting 50 pounds or less.
